Become part of a Photo Crew!
Photographic project in association with Gray’s School of Art

For festival 2008 AIYF are creating a unique opportunity to become part of a photo crew. The project to be curated by staff and students from the School of Arts will be an exciting mix of skills workshops and practical photographing. The project runs for two weeks and participants can join for one or both. Each part of the week will be a chance to look at different areas of photography and the crew will be split into teams led by students from the School of Art and assigned tasks for the day. This workshops will be a great way to see the festival from an interesting angle and to interact with the performers from around the world as well as seeing the photographs being used on displays, website and in the media by our press team.
Dates: Monday 28th July – Friday 1st August (11.00am – 5.00pm)
(optional extra photo crew events on Saturday 2nd August (10am – 12pm) & Sunday 3rd (1.00pm – 4.00pm)
Monday 4th – Friday 8th August – 11.00am – 5.00pm (optional extra photo crew event on Saturday 9th 1.00pm – 5.00pm)
There may also be other evening opportunities for the photo crew as the project develops.
Venue: The project will meet each day at the Festival offices at the University of Aberdeen- King’s College and return there at the end of the session – unless otherwise informed.
Cost: £100.00 per week includes lunch and use of equipment
(bring your own digital camera as well if you have one)

Become part of a Film Crew!
Film & Live broadcasting workshops in association with Peacock Visual Arts

AIYF have teamed up with Peacock Visual Arts to offer a fantastic opportunity to take part in an intensive 3 day video and live broadcasting workshop. The participants will get hands on experience and expert guidance using broadcast video and audio equipment. After the workshop sessions the participants will form the crew for a live internet broadcast of the AIYF Festival Variety Gala on Saturday 9th August at His Majesty’s Theatre.
Dates: Thursday 7th August – 2.00pm – 4.30pm Friday 8th August – 2.00pm – 4.30pm Saturday 9th August – 5.00pm – 10.00pm
Venue: The project will meet each day at the Peacock Gallery, Castlegate, Aberdeen and return there at the end of the session – unless otherwise informed. Cost: £30.00
Age: 15+


Become part of the Street Theatre Crew!
Large Puppets project in association with Puppet Lab, Edinburgh

AIYF are pleased to be hosting this project with Puppet Lab from Edinburgh who for a long time have been at the forefront of Scottish and British puppetry. This 9 day workshop project will be very much about learning on the job. The participants will join the professional puppeteers from Puppet lab on a task to design, build and manipulate fantastic and imaginative large puppets for the AIYF Festival in the City event Sunday 3rd August in Aberdeen City Centre. The work could get messy so please wear appropriate clothing.
Dates: Saturday 26th July - Sunday 3rd August – 10.00am – 5.00pm (don’t worry if you can’t make every day most will do. Possible evening opportunities depending on how the project develops.)
Venue: The project will meet each day at the Linksfield Academy, King Street Aberdeen. On Sunday 3rd the group will be taking the puppets around the town centre but will return to the Academy unless otherwise informed.
Cost: £100.00 includes lunch and all materials

Become part of the Beat Crew!
Drumming Workshop in association with (afric A berdeen) Druminaboot Aberdeen’s African drumming group Druminaboot in partnership with AIYF are offering a fabulous chance to work with one of the leading African drumming teachers Mokolo Sawane and also a chance to try some African Dance with two local dance teachers from Druminaboot supported by Senegalese dance master, Sens Sagna. These free workshops in Dance and Dance supported through Aberdeen City Council will teach participants the fabulous djembé drums as well as the unique rhythmic choreography of the African dancers. All the participants will get the opportunity to perform as part of the AIYF Festival in the City on the Sunday 3rd August in the city centre as well as the Tartan Day parade on the morning of Saturday 2nd August.
Dates: Drumming workshops: Mondays 7th, 14th ,21st & 28th July – from 6.00pm – 8.00pm
Venue: Ferryhill Community Centre, Albury Road, Aberdeen Dance workshops: Mondays 14th, 21st & 28th July – from 6.30pm – 8.00pm
Venue: Ferryhill Community Centre, Albury Road, Aberdeen And a final workshops for both on Saturday 2nd August – 10.00am – 1.00pm at Kings’ College, University of Aberdeen.
Cost: free
